Open Sky Oasis

Spiritual Volunteering in Spain

Live, Work and Grow in a Conscious Community

Before applying, please read this carefully

Because we receive many applications, we ask everyone to complete a more detailed application form.

Please read the introduction below carefully. If you resonate with what we offer, we warmly invite you to apply. If your application feels like a good fit, we will get in touch with you.

Open Sky Oasis is not a casual holiday volunteer placement. It is a conscious community environment with a spiritual focus, shared responsibility, meditation, and inner work. We ask people to apply only if they genuinely feel drawn to this kind of life.

Background of the Community

The Main Community: Open Sky House

The main community place, Open Sky House, has existed for 22 years. It is located on the banks of the Rhine River near Cologne in Germany, where we live as a modern ashram with about 15 people and the teacher John David.

More Info: Visit the Open Sky House Website

Almost every weekend we offer Retreats and Workshops here and a lively community of open hearted spiritual seekers calls this place their home.

Volunteering is also possible in Germany. More Infos here

John David - Founder and Guide

Spiritual Teacher John David is the guide and founder of our community in Spain and originally in Germany. He comes from the Advaita Tradition of Sri Ramana Maharshi and Papaji. John David offers regular retreats at Open Sky Oasis such as the upcoming Whitsun Retreat from 22 – 31 May.

On John David’s website, you can find inspiring 1-2 minute video clips with his core teachings that illuminate the spiritual path: https://johndavidsatsang.international/satsang-videos-with-john-david/

What Open Sky Oasis is

Open Sky Oasis has been developing over the past 10 years. It is a beautiful place in Dénia on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Usually, 3–5 community members live there, running a guesthouse and seminar space, while hosting regular weekends and retreats with John David.

Main points:

  • an international conscious community in Dénia, Spain
  • rooted in self-enquiry and awakening
  • inspired by Sri Ramana Maharshi and Papaji
  • guided by Spiritual Teacher John David
  • based on presence, honesty, responsibility, meditation, and practical contribution
  • a place where volunteers join an existing field of conscious living, not just a work exchange

What Volunteering Here Means

Volunteering at Open Sky Oasis is not just about helping with practical tasks. It means entering a living field of conscious community, shared responsibility, meditation, and inner growth. Daily work may include cleaning, gardening, kitchen support, maintenance, guest preparation, and other practical tasks needed to support the space.

Is this for you?

Who this is for

This opportunity may be right for you if you are:

  • sincerely interested in self-realisation, meditation, or self-enquiry
  • emotionally mature and reasonably stable
  • able to live simply and cooperatively with others

  • self-responsible, grounded, and inwardly motivated

Who this is not for

This is probably not the right place for you if you are:

  • primarily interested in accommodation near the beach
  • expecting a therapeutic, healing, or recovery centre
  • currently in an acute psychological crisis
  • uncomfortable with spiritual language or conscious community life
  • resistant to structure, shared responsibility, or honest feedback

Health and Psychological Clarity

Because we live in a close and focused community environment, it is important that applicants are physically and psychologically stable enough to take part responsibly in shared daily life.

Open Sky Oasis is not a medical, psychiatric, or therapeutic facility. We cannot offer professional support for acute mental health situations, trauma crises, addiction crises, or unstable psychological states.
